Esteemed Star Pat Finn, Famed For Parts in Friends and The Middle, Passes Away at Age 60.

The actor Pat Finn had a key role in the popular series The Middle.

Stateside performer Pat Finn, who featured in iconic programs like Friends, "Seinfeld" and The Middle, has passed away aged 60.

The skilled improv artist passed away at his residence in Los Angeles recently having undergone treatment for cancer since 2022, according to media reports.

"Pat never met a stranger - solely future friends he hadn't encountered," his family said in a announcement.

They noted that he had "experienced life to the fullest - with joy and exuberance".

A Notable Career on Screen

Finn's first television role was in the George Wendt Show in 1995, where he portrayed the lead character's sibling.

He also had a recurring role on "Murphy Brown" from 1995 to 1997.

He appeared as the character Joe Mayo in Seinfeld in 1998, portraying a party host who would assign burdensome jobs to his guests.

During the 90s and 2000s, he appeared as a guest star on a variety of popular shows, like:

  • The King of Queens
  • Friends
  • That '70s Show
  • "House"

Finn was perhaps best known for portraying Bill Norwood in "The Middle", appearing throughout eight seasons of the show from 2011 to 2018.

His film credits are It's Complicated (2009) and Santa Paws 2: The Santa Pups.

A Life in Improv

Outside of his on-screen roles, Finn was a skilled improviser and worked as a teacher at the University of Colorado, where he was a faculty member.

He was a member of a comedy group of six known as Beer Shark Mice.

"Pat guided, supported, and advised many learners throughout the years and you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who has an unkind word to say about him," his family wrote.

In a tribute, fellow actor actor Richard Kind said there was "not a more kind, gentle, or funny, down to earth person you could encounter".

"Perpetually optimistic, helping you be funnier and better. An excellent dad and person," Kind wrote publicly.

Pat Finn is survived by his partner Donna, his children, and his mother, father, and brothers/sisters.
