This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the equivalent scale as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the commencement of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future away from worry.”
This ceremony, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, donated by a first responder, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six-seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The craze became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: happy, multicultural, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Annually, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
